KERR LAYEN CASHEW PROJECT

An exciting project for Kerr Layen and Also for US ALL as we seek to combat Co2 in a Climate Crisis

PROJECT COMPLETE

CLIMATE CONCERN

Climate Change is a concern that we ALL have for our planet and the reduction of our Carbon Footprint should be a challenge for all of us.

With the average footprint being somewhere between 5 and 8 tonnes of Co2 per annum and a target of less than 2 tonnes there is a journey for all of us.  There are many schemes in play and one of the key ones is to plant trees in tropics and sub tropics to absorb Co2. Trees are good at this and especially fast growing evergreens, which absorb Co2 and give out Oxygen.

Friends of Kerr Layen have a programme for planting Cashew Nut Trees around the village of Kerr Layen and surrounding region. This is part of our Aid and Development Programme and will be planted managed and further developed by the villagers at Kerr Layen for themselves.

Our first project was FIVE HECTARES some FIVE HUNDRED PLUS Cashew trees. These will come into crop after four years and will continue to provide Co2 processing year on year for 30yrs or more. Planting will continue to as much land as can be provided to support Cashew nuts. The nuts will be sold when the trees mature, providing a substantial income to Kerr Layen improving the outcomes for the whole village and providing for other much needed services. Education, Medical, Infrastructure. This first Cashew planting was completed in Autumn 2022. Cashew will continue to be planted on available land with a potential for many thousands of trees. The village continues to manage the trees themselves and has a nursery plantation bringing on the next planting out.

BENEFITS??

Well at Kerr Layen, there will be Labour, Income, Funding for Infrastructure, Water, Food, Medical and Education this first 500 tree Plantation will provide approx £8,000 a year when the trees crop for over 30yrs. A total of around £200,000 to the village of Kerr Layen. Significant outcomes.

For KERR LAYEN AND ALL OF US these first 500 trees when mature will process a huge of Co2 in their lifetime, so each year just 30 trees will absorb a ton or more Co2 PER YEAR, the equivalent to a medium size car traveling 3000 miles in a year. As time goes on significant numbers of trees WILL make a difference. Any support creates the opportunity to offset a portion of carbon footprint. For details contact us via the details below.
