PROJECT THREE CASHEWS

An exciting project for the region is the extending of the Cashew Nut Tree planting. Cashews are an evergreen tree, fast growing and ready to crop in three years. The 2021 Project is to prepare and plant FOUR HECTARES of Cashew trees on a new plantation providing employment and a cash crop. The secondary and innovative outcome is the reduction of Co2 to the environment by planting evergreen fast growing trees at a density of 160 per Hectare. The budget for this is £1,000

Well it's official we are off to The Gambia in November.

A group of three of us are travelling to Banjul and developing our contacts Gambia side for Friends of Kerr Layen. Three years have flown by and the village has achieved a great deal in the planting of 500 trees and developed its farming. We are visiting the village to meet the people and the elders.

It is an exciting prospect. We will discuss the continuity of land use as well as finalizing our plans for progressive increase in the number of Cashew trees and the finalising of two projects, the well which is producing good water and a permanent site office and store.

All this will be accompanied but the setting up of Gambia side banking and a visit to the British Embassy.
