An exciting project for the region is the extending of the Cashew Nut Tree planting. Cashews are an evergreen tree, fast growing and ready to crop in three years. The 2021 Project is to prepare and plant FOUR HECTARES of Cashew trees on a new plantation providing employment and a cash crop. The secondary and innovative outcome is the reduction of Co2 to the environment by planting evergreen fast growing trees at a density of 160 per Hectare. The budget for this is £1,000

OUR PROJECTS
Our Farm Projects remain varies and productive at Kerr Layen. From our first venture in Groundnuts during the 2021/22 season the village with the support of Friends has underplanted the Cashew Trees with ground crops to provide vegetable oil for use and income. A vegetable garden is planned at the village to provide further food products.
This year 2023 we have supported the village in the planting of a significant Maize crop, this is developing well and will be harvested at the end of 2023. All has gone well for projects so far moving the village and region progressively forward in the reducing the potential for food poverty and the provision of work and incomes with the village in total the beneficiary. The Well and Site Office
Commissioned quarter 3 2022 a deep well was started at the Cashew Plantation to provide water for trees and agriculture. This is producing good water in quantity.
The second phase at the well is to provide a water tower and storage tank and a pumping system to keep the water store full. Fundraising is underway for this project and completion is planned in
Qtr 2 2024. A site office/store is planned for completion in early 2024. This will provide 24/7 management and security and fundraising is also under way for this project.
